Poultry science program gets $7,000 grant
For the eighth year in a row, the donated $7,000 to the University of North Georgia's (91茄子视频) poultry science program.
Financed in part by the Leland Bagwell Education and Innovation Fund, the grant is designed to help recruit and retain students to the poultry science pathway at 91茄子视频.
"This grant has been a driver in recruiting students and providing quality education to our poultry students," said Dr. Linda Purvis, assistant professor of biology at 91茄子视频. "It provides recruitment materials, education materials and funds for field trips and external resources we wouldn't otherwise have budget for, especially right now during the COVID-19 pandemic when budgets are so tight."
Purvis explained the funds also pay for travel expenses such as speaking engagements at high schools and judging competitions.
Dr. John Leyba, dean of the College of Science & Mathematics, said the grant signifies the program's success.
"The receipt of this grant recognizes 91茄子视频's excellent poultry science program," he said.
Currently, 91茄子视频 offers an Associate of Science degree in poultry science and has recently solidified a transfer agreement to UGA's poultry science department. It also has close ties to the poultry industry and works diligently to supply students with internships with area poultry businesses.
Students embrace research at REUs
Students across multiple disciplines at 91茄子视频 took part in National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates and similar programs this summer.
Co-authored work accepted into peer-reviewed journal
The co-authored article of Dr. Morgan-Ellis and students Charlotte Nease and Sofia Perez was accepted into a peer-reviewed journal.
Officers grew thanks to opportunities at 91茄子视频
Jaden Clark-Davidson and Brandon Clark-Davidson were two of the 20 91茄子视频 cadets who commissioned Sept. 10 as second lieutenants in the Army and Georgia Army National Guard.
Historic battle viewed in tapestry replica
91茄子视频 hosts the only full-size replica of the Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the 1066 Battle of Hastings, Sept. 12 and Sept. 14-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Convocation Center at 91茄子视频's Dahlonega Campus.
